Catacombe di St. Domitilla

Our last stop in Rome were the Catacombs, an underground burial place near Rome. They are famous for Chrisitan burials that began near the 2nd century due to their persecution. Christians bought these land for cheap and buried their loved ones secretly. These tunnels are miles long and extend several stories below ground.
Now most tombs are empty. Many bodies with valuables were stolen in the early centuries and put up for sale!
